Eaton Held Eaton GWM Vehicle Solutions Tech Day

Date: 2014/4/18

SHANGHAI…Power management company Eaton held Eaton- GWM Tech Day under the theme of "Excellent power management drives efficient solutions" at the site of Great Wall Motors Co. Ltd. (GWM) in Baoding, Hebei Province, showcased customized products and innovative solutions for GWM, along with a wide array of power management solutions for energy-efficient vehicles targeted at customers in China and the Asia Pacific region.

"GWM is one of our most important strategic partners in China vehicle market. In recent years, we have successfully cooperated in areas such as chassis and engines," said Hutchins. "In addition to a strengthened tie with GWM, this Tech Day offered us an opportunity to further extend our cooperation in solutions to improve automobile performance, safety and fuel economy as well as in hydraulic and electrical technologies. We will continue to work closely with GWM to provide more safe and reliable solutions which improve the performance and reduce energy consumption for vehicles."

On the event, Eaton showcased its solutions for electrical safety, green switches, and advanced systems and lean solutions used in auto assembly lines. Eaton limited slip differential technology for sophisticated models, advanced fuel evaporation control technology that helps to fight smog and variable valve lift technologies are also displayed on the event. Eaton's technical experts introduced the company's global innovation centers and the latest achievements including fuse for electric and hybrid electric automobiles, mechanical superchargers, hydraulic tappets, cylinder deactivation technologies and engine brakes.

Notably, Eaton's mechanical locking differential is installed in GWM's first premium smart pickup Wingle 6 unveiled on April 16 in Beijing to provide the car with increased safety when traveling on demanding road conditions. As the pioneer in traction control technologies, Eaton's mechanical locking differential is widely used in SUVs and pickups. When a low-traction situation occurs that causes a wheel speed difference greater than the set value, the differential will be automatically locked and transmit all the torque to the tire with normal traction. This can save the vehicle from dangerous conditions and ensure safety of the passengers. On the test drive of Wingle 6 on April 16, Eaton's innovative solutions help the new pickup perfectly accomplish the cross axis test, ladder road test and show strong stability and excellent performance in wading roads, side hills, camelback roads, pits and crater roads.

China has become the world's largest market for passenger and commercial vehicles. Auto sales in China topped 21 million vehicles in 2013 and are projected to exceed 30 million annually in the next four years. To meet the growing needs of the Chinese market, Eaton has invested over 75 million in Jining manufacturing capacity. In April this year, Eaton opened Asia Pacific Vehicle Technical Center in Shanghai, which will serve as a great complement to its manufacturing capability. This facility will further strengthen Eaton Vehicle Group's local testing and development resources, significantly upgrade the ability to work with customers in the development of new engine platforms and efficient solutions, and provide important technological guarantee in addition to high output.

Last year, Eaton Vehicle Group has earned many awards in the Chinese market. UltraShift ® PLUS AMT received "Urban Passenger Transport Credit Product Award" in the 2013 China Passenger Transport Forum hosted by Urban Transport Branch of China Road Transport Association. Eaton's hybrid power system won the China Industry Developing & Innovation Awards by the prestigious magazine "Automobile and Parts". Recently, Eaton was honored best suppliers' awards by three major OEMs in China, which are Chery, DCEC, the joint venture of Cummins and Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. and BFCEC, the joint venture of Cummins and Foton.

The Vehicle Group is a leader in truck and automotive drivetrain and powertrain systems for performance, fuel economy and safety. It is comprised of the company's truck and automotive segments. The truck segment is a global leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of powertrain systems and other components for commercial vehicle markets. Key products include manual and automated transmissions, clutches and hybrid power systems. Eaton's automotive segment produces key products such as superchargers, engine valves and locking and limited-slip differentials.
