Eaton Showcases Energy-Efficient Vehicle Power Management Solutions at Auto Shanghai 2013

Date: 2013/5/03

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton is showcasing advanced vehicle power management solutions at the 15th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition (Auto Shanghai 2013), with technologies and products designed to help Chinese customers use power more efficiently, responsibly and safely.

Eaton’s product and solutions portfolio includes Ultrashift PLUS Automated Transmissions, Hybrid Transmissions, Superchargers, Variable Valvetrain, Hollow Valves and Traction Modifying Devices. At booth number Hall N5, C013, the advanced technologies and products being exhibited by Eaton at Auto Shanghai 2013 focus on the regional and global trends that are shaping the decisions being made by vehicle manufactures who are looking to provide their customers with reliable, clean and safe vehicles. As part of the company’s long-term commitment to meet growing customer demand for innovative vehicle solutions, the products and technologies are geared toward the Automotive, Linehaul, Vocational, Bus & Coach, Pick-Up & Delivery market segments.

“China’s vehicle market continues to grow, and with that growth come significant challenges,” said Ken Davis, president – Eaton’s Vehicle Group. ” The Chinese government has set ambitious targets to save energy and protect its environment, and we applaud those efforts and stand ready to support them by providing innovative and sustainable power management solutions for our customers. We are committed to working closely with our local partners and customers to develop reliable, efficient and safe technologies and solutions to help them solve their toughest power management challenges.”

One of the products being featured is Eaton’s UltraShift PLUS Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). As Eaton’s latest generation of automated transmissions, the UltraShift PLUS provides greater efficiency versus other automated and automatic transmissions, as well as a number of performance and cost advantages. Its two-pedal design uses electronics to engage and disengage the clutch, which allows drivers to concentrate on the road and not on shifting. An electronic clutch actuator provides faster shifting, smoother engagement and improved low-speed maneuverability. Importantly for customers, UltraShift PLUS is available in 58 models and can be tailored to the unique needs of each fleet to provide optimal performance.

Eaton also offers the world’s most complete line-up of hybrid power systems for commercial vehicle applications, including electric hybrid and hydraulic hybrid power systems. In China, Eaton has provided more than 2,300 hybrid power systems for buses in Beijing, Guangzhou, and other cities in China. Buses equipped with Eaton’s hybrid systems have achieved 370 million kilometers of service while reducing fuel consumption by 35 million liters.

Another highlight from Eaton at the auto show is Eaton’s TVS® supercharger which is capable of delivering high power and low-end torque while providing vehicle manufacturers with the option of using a smaller, more efficient engine with no loss in performance or drivability, providing better fuel economy and reduced emissions. Eaton debuted its supercharger technology in China in 2010 in partnership with Chery, and in July 2012 won Nissan Motor Co.’s “Global Innovation Award” for its supercharger technology.

Eaton began operations in China in 1993 at its manufacturing facility in Jining, and has grown its presence in the region through acquisitions, joint ventures and wholly-owned subsidiaries over the past two decades. Today, Eaton China operates 28 major manufacturing facilities five R&D centers.
