SHANGHAI, China …Power management company Eaton has been recognized again for its achievements in fulfilling corporate social responsibility (CSR) in China.  Its 2013 China Sustainability Report was recently honored the “Golden Bee CSR Report Evergreen Award” by the China WTO Tribune magazine. Meanwhile, Eaton’s “Hybrid Power System for Green Transportation” application was recognized as one of the Excellent Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Cases by the China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment.
“Sustainability is at the core of Eaton’s growth strategy in China. As one of the first multinational companies to publish a CSR report in China, Eaton is committed to operating sustainable businesses,” said Joe-Tao Zhou, president of Eaton in China. “We are honored that Eaton’s sustainability leadership has been recognized again by thought leaders in China. Our commitment to sustainability extends to innovative products and services that help our customers manage electrical, hydraulic and mechanical power more efficiently and help improve environmental performance. These include hybrid power systems that boost fuel economy and reduce particulate and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in city buses in China.”
The Golden Bee CSR Report Award evaluation was organized by the WTO Tribune magazine and International Research Center for Social Responsibility & Sustainable Development of Peking University. Eaton has again been honored for the credibility, readability and innovativeness of its sustainability report. Eaton’s 2013 China Sustainability Report highlighted its efforts in powering China’s sustainable urbanization, green manufacturing and operation, a sustainable workforce, and strong and sustainable communities, and also demonstrated Eaton’s in-depth understanding of corporate social responsibility.
Additionally, Eaton’s “hybrid power systems for city buses” application was named by the China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment as one of the Excellent CSR Projects of Foreign-invested Companies in 2014 for its innovative technologies and contribution to energy-saving and emission-reduction for green transportation in China. The project was also recognized as one of the 36 Exemplary CSR Projects in Pudong New Area. In October 2014, the district government of Pudong, Shanghai evaluated over 400 companies to honor their commitment to the community. The 36 selected projects will be promoted across the district as model cases in CSR practice.
"Eaton's hybrid power systems have earned the company recognition as a global leader in alternative power for commercial vehicles, and we are pleased to accept this prestigious honor in China," said Zhou. "Our hybrid innovations are part a global commitment to sustainability that extends throughout Eaton's electrical, hydraulics, aerospace, truck and automotive businesses."
The Eaton hybrid power system is already in use in more than 6,000 buses in China. The hybrid system includes start-stop technology that automatically switches off the diesel engine when the bus is stationary and turns it back on when power is needed. This system dramatically reduces emissions and noise, especially at bus stops.
