Date: 2016/2/02

Shanghai… Power management company Eaton has been honored Green Supply Chain Shanghai Best Practice 2015 with the Ecological Design Award during the Green Supply Chain 2016 Shanghai Summit, recognizing its achievements on sustainability development.

“We are pleased to share Eaton’s experience and achievements in building green supply chain with our peers,” said Joe-Tao Zhou, President of Eaton in China. “Sustainability is at the core of Eaton’s business. We’re committed to building a more sustainable supply chain and extend our commitment to sustainability from our own operations to suppliers. This would help improve the competitiveness of our supply chain while benefiting our local customers with much more new technologies, green products and services.”

The award highlighted Eaton’s contribution in helping the supply chain reduce carbon footprint with its innovative green products. As a world’s leading diversified power management company, Eaton is committed to helping its customers increase energy efficiency and lower cost with the integrated solutions by leveraging Eaton’s rich experience in electrical, hydraulic and mechanical power management.

The consumption of building energy is rapidly increasing over the last few years in China, as it makes up over 27.45% of total energy consumption today compared with 10% in the late 1970’s. Eaton’s cutting-edge mechanical, electrical and building automation system technologies help minimize power consumption in LED lighting, HV&AC and other aspects, providing the industry with solutions for green and smart buildings. Eaton’s lighting control system helps customers lower power consumption by 20%-25%, while Eaton’s variable frequency drives help lower the power consumption of the HV&AC system by 10%-15%. With its innovative solutions, Eaton also helps its customers achieve LEED Certification.

The transportation industry occupies a large share of the total energy consumption across the globe. Eaton provides the world’s most comprehensive hybrid power systems for commercial vehicles. It introduced the first hybrid power bus to China market in 2007. Today, more than 10,000 urban buses with Eaton’s hybrid power system are running on the roads of over 78 cities in China, with mileage of more than 1 billion kilometers. Compared with non-hybrid power vehicles, it can reduce up to 40% of fuel consumption.

Eaton plays a vital role in the green supply chain with its innovative green products. It not only improved the review process of qualified suppliers, but also provided local small and medium suppliers with technology and management exposure so as to improve production capacity and their environmental performance. For instance, Eaton signed Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Management Agreements with the suppliers, brought to their notice requirements regarding EHS and invited key suppliers to participate in Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). The suppliers were also asked to use polystyrene and polyethylene packaging sparingly.

The Green Supply Chain 2016 Shanghai Summit was co-organized by Shanghai Daily with the guidance of China-ASEAN Environmental Cooperation Center, Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau, and Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce. The summit also marked the launching of the “2016 Shanghai 100+ Enterprises in Green Supply Chain Program”. With the efforts of local government, enterprises and social organizations, Shanghai is heading towards a green and sustainable future.
