Eaton Advocates Innovation to Power Sustainable Urbanization in China at Sustainability Symposium in Beijing

Date: 2016/6/07

Beijing… Power management company Eaton today hosted the Sustainable Urbanization Symposium with China WTO Tribune and China Southern Power Grid Energy Co., Ltd.  to lead the discussion on how innovation and efficient energy management are needed to drive sustainable urbanization in China.

The half-day event, held in Beijing today, is bringing together business, public-sector and academic leaders to discuss how they can work together to address the great energy and environmental challenges during China’s massive urbanization progress. According to the 13th Five-Year Plan, China’s urbanization rate will reach 60 percent by the end of 2020. The government has made sustainable urbanization a major focus for the coming years.

“Rapid urbanization is exerting pressure on the environment and energy supplies. Technological innovation can bring efficiency gains while reducing resource and energy consumption. Using innovative smarter technologies, governments and businesses are taking steps to plan and develop greener options that address energy usage in the transport, building and infrastructure sectors,” said Joe-Tao Zhou, president of Eaton in China.

“At Eaton, it’s our mission to provide innovative technological answers to the major challenges in energy and power management. We are bringing our best technologies and solutions in the field of hybrid vehicles, green buildings and energy efficiency to help contribute to sustainable urbanization in China.”

Eaton’s all-inclusive approach to improve energy efficiency includes more environmentally friendly transportation methods and the construction of smarter buildings in order to make the future a brighter and greener one. For example, Eaton introduced the first commercially available hybrid power system bus in China in 2007. So far, over 10,000 buses running in China’s 78 cities have been equipped with Eaton’s hybrid systems, logging 1 billion kilometers and saving 40 percent in fuel over non-hybrid systems.

As one of a series of sustainability and energy efficiency symposiums in China initiated by Eaton since 2011, the event was designed to create a platform for Eaton and its key partners and stakeholders to discuss how they can work together to advance sustainable urbanization in China. The event is part of the company’s participation in the “Golden Bee CSR 2020 Initiative” launched by the China WTO Tribune in 2011 to promote cooperation and common action among various corporations, organizations and countries regarding CSR practices.

Eaton has been recognized for its sustainability leadership by a variety of respected organizations in China and has received more than 30 recognitions. In 2015, Eaton China was honored with the “Corporate Social Responsibility Leadership Award” by the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai.

Eaton began its operations in China in 1993 by launching its first manufacturing facility in Jining of Shandong Province. Since then it has significantly expanded its presence to include 28 manufacturing facilities and more than 15,000 employees.
