Date: 2016/7/27

SHANGHAI … Power management company Eaton has been honored with the 2016 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Excellence Award at the “Invest in Green Future” CSR Excellence Awards Ceremony and Summit, recognizing its excellent performance on sustainability practices in China.
The event was held in Shanghai today, capping a 3-month campaign to collect best practice cases to promote responsibility and sustainability. The campaign received altogether 100 cases submitted from 83 companies. Based on the assessment by the judge panel and public votes, 49 cases have been selected as the winners whose experience and practice will be promoted to foster Shanghai’s green development.

“We’re honored to be recognized for our continuing efforts in advancing sustainability through innovation,” said Joe-Tao Zhou, president of Eaton in China. “Improving energy efficiency and reducing emission through our innovative technologies and green products are among Eaton’s highest priorities. We are confident to help our customers address the great energy and environmental challenges in China’s new model of sustainable urbanization.”

Guided by the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality, Shanghai Commission of Commerce and Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau, the event was organized by Shanghai Observer under Jiefang Daily, Shanghai Daily and Eastday.com. The winners fall into three categories, namely, “green development”, “shared value” and “responsibility and innovation.”   Eaton was among the five winners of the “green development” award.

At the start of the 13th Five-Year Plan, fruits of the event can serve as guidelines for Shanghai’s green development as well as the city’s bid to become a global innovation center for science and technology. The winners are expected to create green value for others and help the city achieve its target of moving to an innovation-led growth through industrial restructuring and upgrading.

The recognition is mainly attributed to Eaton’s innovative technologies and green products for the transportation sector, such as its hybrid power systems for commercial trucks and buses.
Eaton introduced the first commercially available hybrid power system bus in China in 2007. So far, over 10,000 buses running in China’s 78 cities have been equipped with Eaton’s hybrid systems, logging 1 billion kilometers and saving 40% in fuel over non-hybrid systems.

In addition, Eaton’s global innovation team in China also developed two key technologies for new energy vehicles, which are the electric vehicle drive unit and intelligent high-voltage power distribution box for new energy bus market. These two innovative technologies are combined to provide easier and safer operations, helping bus owners minimize the operation cost.
