Eaton Brings Multiple Energy-Efficient Vehicle Power Management Solutions to Auto Shanghai 2017

Shanghai Power management company Eaton today announced its portfolio of advanced vehicle power management solutions at the 17th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition (Auto Shanghai 2017), showcasing Eaton’s efforts to improve vehicle efficiency, reliability and safety.

Eaton’s technology portfolio includes the UltraShift PLUS Automated Manual Transmissions (AMT), Electrical Vehicle Automated Manual Transmissions (EV AMT), Advanced Valvetrain solutions, Hollow Valves for various engines, Cylinder Deactivation Systems, Traction Modifying Devices, Fuel Emission Controls, Fluid Conveyance, and Superchargers.


Located at booth number Hall 5.2, 5BC151, the advanced technologies and products being exhibited by Eaton focus on the regional trends that shape the decisions of vehicle manufacturers who are looking to provide their customers with reliable, clean and safe vehicles in the Automotive, Bus & Coach, Linehaul, Vocational, and Pick-up & Delivery market segments.


A key product being featured is Eaton’s 4-speed Electric Vehicle Automated Manual Transmission (EV AMT). Combining a 4-speed demonstrator transmission with an electric motor, this innovative technology was independently developed in China and designed exclusively for the Chinese medium and large sized transit bus market, providing 10 percent to 15 percent energy savings through improved shifting. The product features a more energy efficient gearbox when compared with a traditional direct drive powertrain without compromising launch acceleration.

Decompression Engine Brake

Eaton’s Decompression Engine Brake for heavy-duty applications is a valvetrain system solution that enhances braking by enabling the valvetrain to switch between driving mode and engine braking mode, with the potential for incorporating advanced Variable Valve Actuation solutions (e.g. Miller/Atkinson). Eaton’s technology performs better at lower engine speeds than competing products and can be integrated into a standard assembly.


Cylinder Deactivation System (CDA)

Eaton’s CDA system delivers more efficient and responsive engine performance where cylinders can be enabled or deactivated on demand smoothly and in milliseconds. This innovative system is the most direct way to reduce CO2 emissions and improve fuel economy through the driving cycle. CDA deactivates engine cylinders whenever full power is not needed, resulting in the remaining active cylinders operating at higher efficiency which improves fuel economy and reduces emissions.


On-board Refueling Vapor Recovery System (ORVR)

Eaton’s ORVR system is a vehicle emission control system that collects evaporative fuel vapors that emit during the refueling process and burn them during normal operation. The technology reduces hydrocarbon emissions by approximately 95 percent during the vehicle refueling process, which accounts for approximately 50 percent of a vehicle’s total hydrocarbon emissions each year.


Differential and Traction Modifying Devices

Eaton provides a comprehensive portfolio of Differentials and Traction Control devices, including automatic limited-slip and automatic locking and electronic selectable locking differentials to maximize engine power and wheel traction. This product group includes the Eaton ELocker, which operates as an open differential until it is electronically activated. This selectable differential provides 100 percent axle lock at the press of a button. Used in front and rear wheel drive applications for on-and-off highway vehicles, the ELocker greatly enhances traction and improves performance.
