Supplier diversity

Small and diverse businesses have a major impact on the economy. By providing equal opportunities for diversity business enterprises to compete for our business, both Eaton and our communities benefit.

Strategy and objectives

Promoting an environment for diverse businesses to thrive needs a proactive procurement strategy. The mission of supplier diversity at Eaton is to achieve community and economic impact by including diverse companies throughout our supply base.

We strive to build strategic partnerships based on three important pillars: innovation and value; economic inclusion; and business development.

Our supplier diversity team commits to creating a sustainable diverse sourcing strategy by focusing on these objectives:

  • Increase participation of diverse businesses throughout our supply chain.
  • Set and achieve annual diverse spend targets across all areas of spend.
  • Use advanced analytics to conduct benchmarking and continuous improvement.
  • Actively participate in diversity conventions, events and education organizations.

Introduction to supplier diversity

Eaton is committed to continuing to leverage our award-winning supplier diversity strategy to create long-term and sustainable economic impact in the communities in which we live, work and serve.

Engaging a diverse supply base

Eaton’s combined spending with minority, women, veteran-owned diverse and small businesses was greater than 32 percent of supplier spending in the U.S. in 2022 with over $900 million going to minority, women, veteran, LGBT+ and disabled-owned businesses. In 2022 we advanced our supplier diversity program, purchasing $1.7 billion in goods and services from small and diverse suppliers, and growing our business with minority-owned businesses by approximately 15% and nearly doubling our spend with LGBTQ+ Owned Businesses. In addition, in 2022 we were recognized as Best of the Best for Inclusion and Diversity by the National Business Inclusion Consortium, and we were awarded the National Corporation of the Year from WBEC ORV.

Economic Impact

During 2022 we completed our second Economic Impact Analysis of Eaton's Supplier Diversity Initiative. The analysis detailed the impact our engagement has on communities across the US in terms of income and jobs created.

In 2022, Eaton's engagement with small and diverse businesses led to more than $2.5bn in contributions to the US economy and supported 10,449 jobs. Our Supplier Diversity Program supports job growth at our suppliers and triggers a multiplier effect that supports additional jobs in our supply chain and across supplier communities.
