Eaton’s aerospace retrofits, modifications and upgrades (RMU) business is a core part of our aftermarket and MRO portfolio, focused on modernizing and enhancing in-service aircraft systems to extend operational life, improve performance and enhance overall reliability. Additive manufacturing and cold spray

Eaton’s additive manufacturing uses advanced cold spray repair technology to restore worn or damaged components, providing a faster and more cost-effective alternative to replacing castings and forgings. We developed robotic high-pressure cold spray capabilities that can deposit Aluminum 6061 to repair cast aluminum parts. We are actively developing several commercial and military repair applications.

F-16 engine bleed air system duct upgrade with improved ball joint

When a competitor’s outdated, inferior bleed air ball joint was causing premature galling and fatigue failures, Eaton’s RMU team worked with the customer to design a more robust product and qualified it in our ISO 17025-accredited test lab. Eaton is currently retrofitting the F-16 fleet with an upgraded ducting system that significantly improves flexibility, reliability, and mission readiness.

Airbus A320 family CFM56-5 fuel pump relief valve

A major A320 operator reported a leakage issue with Eaton fuel pumps. Leveraging Eaton’s in-house engineering expertise, our RMU team added a backup ring to the fuel pump relief valve, an upgrade designed to prevent O-ring nibbling due to pressure fluctuations. After we successfully redesigned and tested the solution, the OEM issued a fleetwide service bulletin to upgrade all A320s to the new backup ring design to eliminate leakage and improve pump reliability.

Embraer E-170/E175 pre- cooler

An E-170 operator was experiencing excessive bleed air leakage caused by failure of single-use gaskets. We developed a stronger reusable E-seal solution that does not require messy adhesive and obtained Parts Manufacturer Approval authorization from the FAA to sell our more reliable upgraded gasket to aftermarket customers.
